AFLAC

AFLAC

Three brothers—Bill, John and Paul Amos—founded Aflac in 1955. For more than 50 years, Aflac voluntary insurance policies have given policyholders the opportunity to direct cash benefits where they are needed most when a life-interrupting medical event causes financial challenges. Aflac is the number one provider of individual health insurance and guaranteed-renewable insurance*, Aflac insurance plans help to provide protection to more than 50 million people worldwide.

*Life & Health Statistical Report, National Underwriter, August 17, 2009.

Why do you need Aflac?

While your major medical health insurance pays a large portion of your covered major medical costs, you are often left with copayments and deductibles plus expenses that may not be covered. If you face an unexpected illness or injury, you could face lost wages, travel, meals, and other expenses not covered by most major medical plans.

Aflac is designed to help cover the expenses left by your major medical plan. Aflac benefits are paid directly to the policyholder (unless assigned), who can decide how best to distribute the funds. Perhaps the utilities or mortgage/rent payment is due, groceries are needed, or maybe the copayments and deductibles from the major medical plan need to be paid. These types of expenses continue even when you are sick or injured.

Aflac insurance policy benefits are paid regardless of any other health insurance you may have.

Claims

Claims are processed quickly. In 2008, Aflac processed more than 7.3 million claims in the United States, most within four days (company statistics, December 31, 2010).

Aflac ranks high among the top industry rating firms.

Aflac's A+ (Superior) rating for financial strength was affirmed by A.M. Best on April 9, 2010.  The A+ rating is the second highest (of 16 levels) given by A.M. Best with the highest being A++ (Superior).

Moody's Investor Service rates Aflac Aa2 (Excellent) in insurer financial strength (February 26, 2010).

The company offers several voluntary insurance policies, including accident, cancer, hospital intensive care, short-term disability, vision, dental, specified health event, hospital confinement sickness indemnity, and life.

In case of accident or illness, Aflac insurance policies pay cash benefits directly to you, unless assigned, regardless of any other insurance you may have.

Coverage is underwritten by American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus. In New York, coverage is underwritten by American Family Life Assurance Company of New York.
